Guide
Setting Up Accounts and Access
These guides explain how to create an account when one does not exist, or how to add us to an account you already own.
We will tell you which guides apply to your project. Complete the ones on your project list, in any order unless we note otherwise.
Before You Start
You will need a Google account for Google Analytics, Search Console, Tag Manager, Google Ads, and Business Profile. It does not need to use a Gmail address. A business email is usually the better choice because the account remains tied to the business rather than to one person’s inbox.
Set up a Google account with a work address
Before you begin, check these two things:
- You need owner or administrator rights to invite another user. If you do not have them, ask the person who manages the account to add us or give you the needed access first.
- If Search Console verification requires a DNS record, identify the person or provider that manages your domain’s DNS. Do not send us a registrar password.
Accounts to Set Up
Create these only when they apply to your project.
| Account | Guide | When you need it |
|---|---|---|
| Google account | Set up a Google account | Before using Google tools |
| Google Search Console | Set up Search Console | Search, SEO, or site-performance work |
| Google Ads | Create a Google Ads account | Paid-search work |
| Domain and DNS account | Register a domain on Cloudflare | A new site or a planned domain transfer |
Your business should remain the owner of every account and domain. We can help with setup, but we should be added as a user rather than made the owner.
Adding Us to Your Accounts
Each guide shows where to add a user, the level we need for that project, and how to remove access later.
| Tool | Access we may request | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics | Editor for setup or configuration; Viewer for reporting-only work | Grant Analytics access |
| Google Search Console | Full user, added by a property owner | Add a Search Console user |
| Google Tag Manager | Publish when we manage live tags | Grant Tag Manager access |
| Google Business Profile | Manager | Grant Business Profile access |
| WordPress | Administrator when we manage site settings, plugins, or users | Grant WordPress access |
Ask before granting a level that seems broader than expected. We can explain what the work requires and, where possible, use a lower level of access.
Keep Access Safe
- We do not need your password. Add us through the platform’s own user-management tools under our individual login.
- Keep two-factor authentication enabled. Nothing in these guides requires turning it off.
- Your business remains the account owner. You can remove our future access later from the same user-management screen. Removing access does not undo work already completed, so ask us if you need help documenting or transferring an active setup.
- Individual logins make changes easier to trace and help keep account access organized.
If a Screen Looks Different
Platforms regularly rename menus and move settings. If a guide does not match what you see, pause before changing anything on a live account.
Send us a screenshot of the screen and tell us which guide you are following. Do not guess at settings involving billing, ownership, DNS, user removal, or access permissions.
Account Setup
Creating an account that does not exist yet, usually because a previous provider held it.
Granting Access
Giving us access to a tool you already own. Nothing here changes who owns anything.
Reporting
Turning analytics into a decision. What to look at, how often, and what to ignore.
